hugs and kisses
“x”在数学中，代表着未知数。用未知数来代替自己的名字，让大家在互相猜测中增添了无限的欢笑和浪漫的神秘感。除了未知数外，“X”还有另外一个含义：Kiss。这主要是因为“X”的发音和“Kiss”相似。在书信、电邮或是卡片的末尾，许多人会写上：XOXO。如果说“X”是 “Kisses”,那么“O”就是“Hugs”(拥抱)。我们做“抱”的姿势不是都把手臂圈成“O”的形状吗？[1]‘xoxo’被现代人用来表示信件署名时的“亲吻拥抱”。
古典的来由：
在欧洲很久以前，很少人会读写，所以他们常常用‘X’来代替签名。这很像中国古代的画押。然后他们会亲吻这个叉，如同亲吻十字架（crucifix）或《圣经》（Bible）那样，表示对这个标记（mark）重要性的认可。这很可能是‘X’表示吻的来源。也有可能‘X’模仿了亲吻时双唇撅起（pursing of the lips）的形状。当然，也有可能它来源于‘X ’与‘kiss’发音相近的事实。关于‘O’代表拥抱的起源，说法不一。很可能它模仿了环抱后双臂的形象。

现代的使用：
在英文网上聊天（online chatting）、短信（SMS message）、电子邮件（email）和信件署名位置（subscription）常常可以看到“XOXO”或“xoxo”这样的表达方式。 它的意思是“hugs and kisses”，表达一种喜爱（affection）或友谊（good friendship）。在信件与明信片（greetings card）人名后面的“X”也表示“吻”。

XOXO是一个新进的台湾组合，是有两个台大校花组成的，资工弥余函弥和工工花Fion，单曲【Mocha Java】，
资工弥
余函弥，台大“五姬”之一，因其在台大资工系毕业，得外号“资工弥”。“资工弥”余函弥私底下很活泼，不同于冷艳的外表。外型亮丽的资工弥却透露小时候因为过胖非常没有自信，加上是独生女的关系，只能在家与乌龟说话、自己办家家酒。
在近日，以组合名义参加台湾著名节目《康熙来了》，并当场落泪，引发极大关注。

《命运规划局》导演乔治·诺菲将执导一部关于Facebook的惊悚电影《XOXO》，届时他将和《黑天鹅》编剧马克·海曼合作，目前电影《XOXO》尚未确定开机及上映日期。
惊悚电影《XOXO》表面上展现的是网络时代的生活方式，深层意义上却是探讨人与人之间的关系问题。在《XOXO》里，主人公发现自己难以分辨网络生活与现实生活间的界限，“网恋”正在榨干他的真实人生。
该片据说是数字时代的《致命的诱惑》（Fatal Attraction），也有点像狮门公司2005年的那部《水果硬糖》（Hard Candy）——前者讲述一个已婚男子被情人骚扰的噩梦般的经历，后者讲述一个萝莉向伤害过她的恋童癖男人复仇的故事。
