1955年妮斯死于乳癌。

1956年他与作家劳拉·阿切拉结婚。她创作了赫胥黎的传记《时光消逝的瞬间》。

1960年赫胥黎被诊断患有正垂七优苦喉癌。在随后的几年里，健康状况每况愈下的赫胥黎写出了乌托邦小说《岛》。
